Bio

Hefan Wang is a PhD student at Heriot-Watt University specializing in robotics and autonomous systems, working under the guidance of Dr. Carlos Mastalli. His current research focuses on advancing motor intelligence to enhance mobility and manipulation in dynamic, unpredictable environments. Hefan’s work bridges the fields of optimal control, simulation-based reinforcement learning, and modern AI techniques, including transformer models.

He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh, where he conducted research under Dr. Steve Tonneau. His MSc research concentrated on quadruped robots, loco-manipulation, whole-body motion planning, and humanoid contact sequence planning. In addition, Hefan has integrated knowledge from computer graphics, animation, and physics simulation to develop innovative solutions in robotics, with guidance from Prof. Taku Komura. His interdisciplinary expertise informs his approach to tackling complex challenges in the field of robotics.
